Technique beats brand
A soft brush used well removes more plaque than a firm brush used hard, and firm bristles are one of the commonest causes of gum recession we see. Two minutes, twice a day, small circles angled into the gum line rather than scrubbing sideways, and a new brush every three months or sooner once the bristles splay. No brush of any price cleans between teeth — that is what floss and interdental brushes are for.

Is an electric toothbrush better than these?
On average an electric brush removes slightly more plaque, mostly because it enforces timing and a gentler pressure. A manual brush used properly is not a compromise, and it is the better choice for many patients who already brush too hard.
Are medium or hard bristles ever right?
