A full smile makeover in Istanbul and the same treatment in the United Kingdom differ in three ways that matter: what drives the cost, how long it takes, and how you handle it afterwards. Dent Health Istanbul is a dental clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, and this guide compares them honestly, including the parts that favour staying at home.

What a Hollywood smile actually involves

The term covers a range of treatments, which is the first thing to pin down. It usually means veneers or crowns across the visible teeth, sometimes preceded by whitening, gum contouring or alignment. Before comparing anything, get both plans to say how many teeth, which material, and veneer or crown for each one.

Two quotes described as a Hollywood smile can mean eight E-max veneers in one case and twenty zirconia crowns in the other. Those are different treatments with different consequences for your teeth.

What drives the difference in cost

Rent, salaries, laboratory work and overheads differ substantially between Istanbul and a UK city. That is the legitimate source of most of the gap, and it says nothing about clinical quality in either direction.

Laboratory arrangements are the second factor. Many Istanbul clinics work with in-house or local laboratories, which compresses both cost and turnaround — and turnaround is why a case that takes weeks in the UK can be finished in days here.

What should not differ is the material. If one plan names E-max and the other says “porcelain”, you are not comparing like with like. Insist that both name the ceramic.

Time: the real practical difference

UK practice stages this work across several short appointments over weeks. Clinics treating international patients compress the same sequence into consecutive full days, because you are on a flight. For E-max veneers we need four full days: planning and preparation, try-in, shade check and bonding.

Compression is an advantage if you can take the time off in one block. It is a disadvantage if you prefer to think between stages — and with a full smile, thinking between stages has real value, because the shape and shade you choose are with you for a decade.

This is why the try-in appointment matters more than anything else in the schedule. Insist on seeing the teeth in your mouth before they are bonded.

Quality: what to look at instead of the country

Neither country has a monopoly on good or bad work. What separates a good result from a bad one is the same in both:

How much tooth is removed. E-max veneers need a minimal preparation of 0.3 to 0.5 mm, staying within enamel. A plan that crowns healthy front teeth is removing structure you will never get back. Ask, tooth by tooth, why each one needs what is proposed.

The laboratory. Form, surface texture and shade transition are handmade. Ask where the work is made.

Whether a try-in happens. A clinic confident in its result will show you before it commits.

What protects it afterwards. If you grind, a night splint is part of the treatment. Ceramic does not tolerate grinding better than enamel.

Aftercare is the part that decides the outcome

Whoever treats you, the first month after bonding sets how the work looks in five years, and the margins need cleaning properly for as long as you have it. If you are treated abroad, arrange who reviews and cleans the work at home before you fly, not after. If your own dentist will not take on work placed abroad, find out now.

The questions that separate a good plan from a brochure

Six questions, and the answers tell you more than any gallery of results.

How many teeth, and veneer or crown for each? Tooth by tooth, with a reason for each. The same reason repeated for every tooth means the plan was written for the arch.

Which ceramic, by name? E-max, zirconia, feldspathic porcelain — these behave differently, and “porcelain” is not an answer.

Where is the laboratory? Form, texture and shade transition are handmade. This is where a result is won or lost.

Will there be a try-in? You should see the teeth in your mouth, in daylight, before they are bonded.

What happens to my gums first? Margins placed against inflamed gums end up in the wrong position. Gum health comes before ceramic.

Who cleans and reviews this at home? Settle it before you fly.

The order of treatment

Whitening before ceramic, always — ceramic does not respond to bleach, so whitening afterwards leaves the new teeth at the old shade. Gum treatment before preparation. Alignment before masking, where alignment is the real problem: ceramic can disguise a small rotation but cannot move a tooth, and masking a significant misalignment costs more tooth structure than correcting it would.

A plan that proposes ceramic before addressing these is working in the wrong order, in Istanbul or in London.

Which is right for you

A few teeth, and a dentist you trust at home: treat it locally. The saving on a small case rarely justifies the travel.

A full smile, and you can take consecutive days off: this is where the cost structures genuinely diverge and where compressed treatment earns its place.

You are uncertain about the shape or shade: consider starting with composite bonding to live with a shape for a few years before committing to ceramic. It is one of the better reasons to choose bonding.

Either way: compare itemised plans that name the material tooth by tooth, insist on a try-in, and settle the aftercare before you pay a deposit.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I need in Istanbul?

Four full days for E-max veneers: planning and preparation, try-in, shade check and bonding. If a plan promises the same work in two days, ask which of those four stages is being dropped.

Is treatment in Turkey lower quality because it costs less?

The cost difference comes from overheads and laboratory arrangements, not from the ceramic. What varies between clinics in either country is how much tooth is removed, who makes the work, and whether you get a try-in. Compare those, not the country.

Will my UK dentist look after veneers placed in Turkey?

Many will; some will not. Ask before you book, and bring home a written record of the material used on each tooth so whoever does take it on knows what they are working with.

Can I get a Hollywood smile without filing my teeth?

Composite bonding needs little or no preparation in most cases, so it is the option that preserves most tooth. E-max veneers need 0.3 to 0.5 mm, staying within enamel. A plan involving crowns on healthy front teeth removes substantially more.

What if I grind my teeth?

Then a night splint is part of the treatment rather than an optional extra afterwards. Grinding is the most common reason smile work fails earlier than it should, in either country.

Send photos of your smile and we will send back a plan that names the material for every tooth. Message us on WhatsApp with photos of your teeth, or request a free assessment. We reply with a written plan that names the materials.
